The resurrection of PortlanderMiamian?

Easter is today and thus it might be fitting that I may attempt to resurrect this blog on the same day. Current events have made me think about wanting to get back into writing- both blogging and stories. I won’t lie- the stories going around of people like Isaac Newton making his big discoveries during the Plague may have inspired me to think about being creative more. Maybe in 100 years when the next pandemic comes around there will be memes about me (probably not but hey…). I also will say the hardest part of current events is actually not the lack of socializing in-person (apologies to my friends reading this…) but has been having to cancel travel plans and put future travel planning on hold… Super insignificant with what is going on and I am very blessed in my ability right now to have food, shelter, and stay home to stay healthy. But I see potentially getting back into blogging as an outlet for my wanderlust and love of travel.

I am thinking of going back into my brain’s memory and my phone photo album to write about some recent trips. In addition, while I haven’t gotten sucked into too many Netflix/Disney+/Amazon Prime/Hulu binge marathons yet (and yes I do subscribe or have access to all of those… Let a guy live), I have fallen down a large number of YouTube wormholes. My current YouTube recommendations tend to be history, geography, and Harry Potter related (no surprise). In the past, the recommendations were heavy on travel and Disney World videos. I could see all of those topics and more popping up on the blog if they make sense to write about in some way.

For long-time readers… (wait I know this is not actually a thing with my blog ha. If miraculously there were one or two of you before it’s been years since I last posted) my posts probably won’t be too heavy on the restaurants and gluten-free eats as before. Obviously, I am still gluten-free (dang genetics…) and enjoy eating, but I am just not as much of a foodie anymore (even before and likely after the pandemic). I put all my old posts into a “Blog Past Life” menu to also sort of start with a clean slate. I will try to highlight some gluten-free finds from my travels though since I know that can still be helpful.

We will see what the theme of the soon-to-be-revitalized blog becomes in the coming months (unless of course no blog posts get written after this one. In that case the theme of the blog would be “failure”…). First, on the to-list I think is a blog post about road tripping through Slovenia. It both is one of my favorite recent trips and a country that a lot of friends have asked about (it should definitely be on people’s lists!). Plus the pictures sort of shamelessly earn views just on their own. To reward anyone who has read this far (or fell asleep halfway through, landed on your keyboard, and woke up to find yourself at the bottom of the page) here’s a pic from that Slovenia road trip. See you in the next post! (hopefully not famous last words…)

  1. Keep the blogs coming. I love living vicariously through your travels.
