I generally tell people that the best things in Portland aren’t “sights” in the traditional touristy sense, but instead is checking out all the great neighborhoods, parks, etc. Just walking around and taking the atmosphere in. The neighborhoods to check out have only grown over the years, but include- NW 23rd Ave, the Pearl, Mississippi Ave, NE Alberta Street, Sellwood, and SE Hawthorne Street. I still think that is pretty true, but Portland also has some great “sights” to check out (just maybe with some Portland quirkiness). Below are some of my favorite places in Portland-
- Forest Park (NW Hills)
- Japanese Gardens (SW Hills)
- International Rose Test Gardens (SW Hills)
- Northwest Street of Dreams 2013
- Peacock Lane (SE Portland, during the holidays)
- Pittock Mansion (NW Hills)
- Powell’s City of Books (Downtown)
- Train ride from Portland to Seattle
- Time-Lapse Videos of Portland
- Union Station (Downtown)
- Waterfront Park and Eastbank Esplanade (Downtown and Close-In SE)
